From March 23 until April 23, 2006 nominations are open. Go ahead nominate your favorite Swiss Blog, and get to know the Swiss blogosphere while you explore the bits and pieces of it.
It is time for the stake-holders, whom you might be, in patent matters to voice their opinion directly to the European Union in what pertains the new policy on PATENTS. This is indeed important, and if you do have a view on this, and you can make your argumentation clear, please take the opportunity to participate in this consultation process. The deadline for the submission of input is March 31, 2006. You can download all the relevant information from the EU website here. Should you have any questions on this, please feel free to contact me either by leaving a comment, sending email or calling me. In addition I will be publishing my own input here when I have finished drafting it, however it will be only on or after the deadline. Update (April 14): Contrary that announcement, I will not be publishing my own input, but I will comment on the matter at another time. Update (April 6, 2006): IMPORTANT NOTICE The deadline for submission of replies is extended until 12 April 2006. Please note that this deadline determines which replies will be taken into account for the hearing on 13 June 2006. However, we welcome all replies submitted after the deadline. They will be duly analysed and taken into account by the Commission in formulation of the future patent policy in Europe.

Internet of Sticks: Now There's No Excuse Not To Get Your Spime On!: This is something that I will be looking on. Meanwhile Shaping Things has arrived, and so far I found time for four chapters. Excuses will come in later.

Last friday I received a very nice invitation to participate in the podium discussion on the occasion of the the "Swiss Blog Awards" night in Bienne/Biel on May 5, 2006. I was very happy with this invitation and I decided to decline. Late in December 2005 I booked a return trip on Swiss to Lisbon from April 24 to May 8. While I have a few scattered relatives in Lisbon, I am heading to the Algarve during those two weeks where not only do I have more relatives but also a rendez-vous with a beach, and that is altogether another long story. I welcome public speaking invitations, and I see that the problem of ubiquity is indeed one that I have yet to solve; I would have rather been in both places at the same time. I am convinced, and time will tell, that blogs are the iceberg's tip of a revolution in media publication. Although my very competitive nature combined with a pinch of laziness keeps me from "wanting" to keep an award winning blog myself, I find such award ventures to be of immense value in publicizing and informing about the subject of the awards. Albeit online, not live, I will follow the progress and outcome of the Swiss Blog Awards and wish the organizers a bombastic success.
